Species
Find the basic breakdown of the main species here. More detailed information about each is available in their relevant registration sections, and we advise you to read those before applying for that species. If you have any queries, please contact an admin!
Demons
A rather broad umbrella classification that covers all manner of sins. Some demons present human-like characteristics, others are grotesquely hellish. Some are corporeal whilst others utilise possession. Low-level demons walked the earth before the veil was torn open, but are more easily able to shift between dimensions or realms now.
Humans
The increasingly rare human being comes in two sub-species: magical or mundane.
Magical humans may have obtained their abilities from any number of origins- hereditary, patronage, bargaining, infection, etc. The power behind these abilities will vary from person to person, and no one is all-powerful. Everyone has their fortes and their flaws, so please bear this in mind.
Mundane beings can be equally skilled in every day activities, and may have survived on pure moxie and brains, if not physical ability.
Be aware, as a human you are not only vulnerable but a target on multiple levels. Otherworld creatures are attracted to carbon dioxide output, and even vampires who aren't starving enough to hunt you in a blood frenzy may decide to try and sell you on to the highest bidder. Even other humans may trade you in to save their own skins! Humans in the Ninth are stocked and bred specifically for their blood (a human farm, if you will), so be wary where you go and make sure you're armed and protected in every way possible.
Vampires/Halfbloods
There are two types of vampirism known to be afoot- viral and magic.
Viral Vampires conform to many stereotypical tropes regarding religious paraphernalia, sunlight, heightened senses and advanced healing.
Magic-based vampires (see the Karadons) are more based in TVD and TO lore, requiring very specific means to be killed. We advise speaking to the Karadon family players if you wish to enrol in this brand of vampirism.
That being said, both are subject to starvation and in the current timeline with humanity facing rapid downfall many vampires are suffering from the absence of nourishment. Starvation reduces a vampire's ability to heal, and control their urges. Animal blood can help maintain them, but fauna is also under threat and does not provide as much fulfillment and nutritional value as human blood.
We also accept half-vampires, who are the result of women turned during their pregnancy. The mothers always die after birth, and whilst half-vamps can walk in the sun and survive off human food, they also suffer the weaknesses of humanity- a slow pulse that would call out to any fullblood vampire, and compulsive respiration that would attract Otherworld demons. As such, most half-vampires were killed, or had themselves fully turned to protect themselves.
Werewolves/Lycanthropes
Viral lycanthropes carry the infection in their saliva and most commonly transfer via biting. Lycans often form organic packs, and follow an Alpha hierarchy. They age slower, heal quicker than humans but not as quickly as vampires, but live off a regular human diet. They have heightened senses and a high pain tolerance given the physical trauma of their monthly transformations.
Born lycans are a rarity. Female lycans cannot carry pregnancies to term, but males can occasionally (rarely) pass on the virus to their offspring. Born werewolves tend to produce bigger wolves, and are almost always natural Alphas. They show no signs of contraction until they hit late puberty, when their body begins to undergo bouts of pain and sickness, causing them to become more aggressive and erratic in behaviour. Their first transformation can happen at any time in the lunar cycle, but will fall into pattern with the moon thereafter.
For both viral and born werewolves, the natural state of the full moon wolf is for it to take total control and for the human portion to have no recollection upon waking. However, a method for cognitive control was developed. The smoking of wolfsbane forces the lycanthrope into an unconscious state where a battle of wills occurs between the human and wolf counterparts. If the human gains dominance they gain awareness and control during their transformations. If the human loses, however, the wolf turns feral and there is no return to humanity.
Other
We are an open-minded, multifandom based site and we willingly welcome your novel ideas for species. Previously on site we've had ghosts, angels, animals, elves, goblins and concepts. If you elect to play an 'other' species, we ask that you provide more detail than usual in your application, outlining your species lore including strengths and weaknesses.
